Who wants to be a winner? Well, evidently everyone. But we can’t all be, or else, what would be the value of being a winner? So losing and losers make winning valuable, and winning and winners make losing unbearable. This is what keeps us living and struggling. Only the wisest and most self disciplined among us have exited the game; Taoism is worthless work.

But witty aphorism aside, since most of us are enslaved to the game, we are trying to maintain our winning position or breakout of our losing condition. This is where self improvement jumps on the scene. It offers you a path to winning. Cold showers, meditation, diet, workout, expand your social circle, and all these things our offered to you as a means to self discovery and self expansion.

But some of it is just Garbage. Like these 5 things:

Meditations is beneficial to people who have congested and disorganized minds. But it is a detriment to people with low levels of mental activity.

But if you are not thinking critically, it easy for you to accept the practice of meditation as a panacea for depression and anxiety. Go on YouTube right now, and search “the benefits of meditation”. You’ll be presented with an onslaught of videos that tell you that meditation will make you smarter, less emotionally reactive, and more focused.

But you will get these results, only if you do it the right way. And the right way may not consist of you sitting with your eyes closed for 45 minutes, further exacerbating the volume of negative and frivolous thoughts. Your life should be a meditation. You need to bring your awareness to your present state and become conscious of the moment.

You need to ask yourself “what emotion is this that I’m feeling?” or “I’m having this sensation as I interact with this person; what should this mean to me?” or “what does this cup of coffee or cigarette do for me?”. This is productive meditation; it helps you understand yourself.

Meditating with your eyes closed while sitting still, should only be done for the length of time that it takes you to become aware that you have departed from self awareness.

I love to work out. Working out boost the feel good hormones in your brain, increases your energy levels, and helps to get you in touch with your sense of personal power. But working out longer than necessary to achieve a magnificent body to make you feel good about yourself is counterproductive to true self esteem.

Believe it or not, you already look good as you are. If you are extremely overweight or if you are so out of shape that you run out of breath from walking up a flight of stairs, then working out for long periods of time in the beginning of your regimen makes sense. But doing so, so that you can look like a young Arnold Swartzhenagger or Jennifer Lopez to feel good, is a infinite chore that will eat up time that you could use for other things.

This goes for all the new fad diets that are popping up too. Why are you forcing yourself to only eat meat or to only eat fruit, at the expense of spare willpower? Eat a balanced diet unless you are on a diet for a serious purpose like: trying to alleviate the symptoms on cancer, detoxification, high blood pressure, etc…

No man or woman is an island. But everybody is not Dale Carnegie either. It is easier for a person with an extroverted personality to be pro active in creating the social circle of their choice. For an introvert, it is harder, but can be done, gradually.

But I don’t think a person should go out and seek friends or associates if they do not want them. There are periods in our lives where it’s best for us to be alone. This does not mean that we are anti-social. But even if we were; so-the-fuck-what?

Use discrimination when entering into relationships, but don’t feel forced to have them for the sake of living up to some external metric that says that you need to have friends. Yogis live alone in caves, and they seem to be fine with it.

Have you ever taken a cold shower? Then you know that It can be an exhilarating feeling. This practice helps to prepare you for dealing with situations that may be uncomfortable in real life; I believe that it is useful.

But I’m not going skydiving anytime soon for the sake of “stepping out of my comfort zone” and overcoming fear. I don’t like heights. But if I have to endure being in a see-through elevator on my way up to the 33rd floor of skyscraper to meet with a hiring manager for a lucrative position as entry level web developer, I’ll grin and bear it.

Point is, you should step out of your comfort zone if it forwards your priorities, but not for the sake of shocking your nervous system for no cause. Only do that if you are at the lowest stage of apathy, temporarily.

So you think that you can get what you want by envisioning what you want, then feeling happy by envisioning it, then working towards that goal in a state of happiness while never having a moment’s worth of doubt? Dude, get the fuck out here. Your living in a fantasy land that is a far departure from reality.

How do I know? Because I was once duped by this pseudo science. While it did help me to accomplish things I set out to do, it was more so a result of having an unrealistic level of self confidence, than adhering to the “magical laws of the universe”.

If getting what we wanted depended on being in a “high vibration of positive emotion” and having the belief that our desires would manifest without a doubt, then little children would be manifesting Unicorns and Rocket ships left and right.
