Thousands are flocking to a beautiful autumn garden just three hour’s drive from the Sydney CBD.
Mayfield Gardens, which is made up of two main areas, Mayfield Garden and the Hawkins’ Family Garden – together make up a magnificent, world-class 65-hectare winter garden.
Though the garden is specially designed to open year-round as a tourist destination, many claim the space is most beautiful in the cooler months when warm autumn colours are about.

The Mayfield Gardens are made up of two main garden areas which together make up a magnificent, world-class 65-hectare winter garden open to the public year-round
In addition, the Hawkins’ Family Garden is the private garden area of the Hawkins family, which is an additional 49 hectares (120 acres) beyond Mayfield Garden.
Four festivals are hosted in the gardens for sixteen days every season – the most recent one concluding on April 25.
The winter festival is set to open in mid-June until early July.
The gardens have several facilities including a café and a nursery.
Mayfield is also mobility friendly and has a host of handrails that have recently been installed including a Mobility-Friendly Camellia Walk that opened in August 2018, providing a mobility path for wheelchairs, prams, and those who would like to avoid stairs and boardwalks.
Many have expressed their awe on social media – with several sharing personal anecdotes from their experiences in the space.
‘I know I say this every time I go somewhere new, but this is probably the most beautiful place I’ve ever visited,’ said one woman.
‘This is so beautiful,’ said another. ‘I went on my birthday last year and got the most perfect photos.’
A third added, ‘I live close to the gardens and frequently enjoy the local’s discount. I always see people getting proposed to near the fountain … truly such a lovely and intimate spot.’

You do not need a 4WD to access the grounds nor do you have to book however you will need to get there early as sites can fill up quickly

‘Gorgeous spot! The further back you go, the more secluded the sites are, none more than a 10 minute walk from the car. Cathedral Reserve is a lovely spot no matter who you are,’ said another.
You do not need a 4WD to access the grounds nor do you have to book or pay a fee however you will need to get there early as sites that fill up quickly.
Cathedral Reserve camp ground is pet-friendly and has toilet and barbecue facilities.
