What is Motivation?

Well, I will give you my answer
Motivation is a Scam
Yes this is my answer
I might not be able to write big scientific terms but I will write out what I think
Motivation is short-lived and temporary in my case, many times I have felt motivated to take any action and this is usually after watching a lot of motivational videos, I just take everything in and start working, it feels so good and in most cases, I get a lot of work done for that day and maybe the next day.
Here comes the “Comedown” period, the effect of the motivational videos is starting to wear off and I feel like shit, my work feels like shit, my environment feels like shit, my life feels like shit and I start to dwindle. I probably feel like this for days and do nothing then I watch a lot of motivational videos again and take action but we know all what happens afterward, It is a circle, and on and on we go.
Extrinsic motivation is the norm out there, there is always a person, a situation, an external factor, a site, or a load of videos that prompt an individual to take any action and they do it with intensity when the effects start to wear off, what is next? Go back to their source of motivation and repeat the same thing for how long will this circle go on, this is how it feels to be on drugs hence Why I call motivation the new ecstasy.
I feel it is unhealthy to make motivation the driving force behind my need to achieve my goals. It is short-lived and temporary and its components are activation, persistence, and intensity. The last component which is intensity is also canceled for me
Intensity takes you three steps forward, and seven steps backward and this takes you further away from your goal. Consistency takes you steps forward towards your goal, for example, if I intend to read 10 books in three months, to achieve this I will opt for reading four hours every day for three months than reading 60 hours at a go every week for the next three months.
Looking at both instances, reading a few hours every day is achievable and will yield the required result unlike reading 60 hours at a go which is for two days and twelve hours straight, in my own opinion I don’t think this is achievable and a rhythm can’t be formed.
“It’s not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives. It’s what we do consistently.”
― Anthony Robbins
For me, I identify my needs and goals and decide how I want to achieve them then I consistently put in the daily effort required to get me closer to my goals, there are days when I feel down and not inclined to do anything or put in the effort but I still do because I already set a rhythm for myself and I am sticking to it, making that deliberate effort, that takes me steps forward and as times goes on it becomes part of me and I noticed that it becomes easier as time goes on.
Goals, Plans, and Consistent effort are my mantra.
Identifying my needs and goals, mapping out how to achieve them, and then putting in the effort consistently each day has helped me become more productive and has made me an achiever.
This is what I think and thank you for reading
