Heartwarming pictures have shown the moment that a little boy met a 100-year-old care home resident during the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations. When Teddie Hodkinson, aged just 10, heard that the Reinbek Borough Care home was home to Clifford Elliot, aged 100, he was ‘desperate’ to meet him.
As crowds gathered for patriotic street parties and celebrations this weekend, marking the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the pair spent the afternoon together in a meeting that century-old Clifford said ‘made his day’. Teddie’s mum Stacey works in admin at the home, and arranged for the two to meet.
It comes after Clifford, who turned the grand age of 100 back in January, received his card from the Queen congratulating him on the milestone. Alongside other residents of the Stockport home and their families, he enjoyed a British-themed picnic menu and an afternoon tea.
Reinbek, along with Borough Care’s eleven other care homes, celebrated Her Majesty in royal style all weekend long, with events and parties across Stockport and Staffordshire. As both Teddie and Clifford enjoyed the Platinum Jubilee celebrations at Reinbek, Clifford spoke highly of Her Majesty, saying: “She’s worked damn hard. She’s worked harder than me! I’m a royalist from that point of view. I’m going to have a drink later and toast to The Queen.”
Little lad Teddie got some life advice from Clifford who told him to “work hard and enjoy life the best you can.” Speaking about the special meet up, Teddie said: “I never thought I would meet someone who is 100. It feels odd in a way because he’s 90 years older than I am. Clifford might be 100 but he looks a lot younger.”

For the last few weeks, staff and residents have been decorating their homes and planning events in anticipation for the historic event, with many residents remembering the Queen’s coronation back in 1952.
Clifford added: “Meeting young Ted here made my day. I never think of it, being 100. I just carry on the same as I always did.
“The only difference is that when I first started working they used to call me ‘Young Clifford’ but by the time I left I was ‘Old Clifford'”.
