How I Lost 40+ Pounds Naturally and What it Taught Me About Achievement
Have you ever needed to achieve a goal, but the resources you desired to use were out of reach?
Did you struggle with feelings of failure if you could not obtain those exact resources? I have, but I found out I was wrong.
Many years ago, I was pregnant, almost 3 years apart, with our daughters, and excess weight! Since we’d decided I’d leave my professional career to become a stay-at-home mother, every resource I desired to diet cost money I no longer had waiting in the wings. Fed up and desperate to lose my pregnancy gains, I found an old paperback book called, The Diet Alternative, by Diane Hampton. It was faith-based and required discipline that I didn’t think I had. Wrong again. I applied myself to ancient principles that are usable right now to help almost any of us achieve any goal we want through belief, consistency and momentum. I lost over 40 lbs, twice, without diet foods or exercise! Belief, consistency and momentum can get you almost anywhere. Let’s look at it:
Belief is two-fold: first, there’s you, the individual. Then with you is God, in Whom you believe, Who also helps to achieve goals. These factors were absolute key as I began to learn that I could propel my destiny with my spoken beliefs about my weight, so I did exactly that with that ancient principle, “I can do all things through Christ, Who strengthens me,” (Philippians 4:13). Additionally, I found that I could say about myself, “Therefore, I lose weight and control my eating for the rest of my life through Him. I wear I size 12–14 clothing and I weigh 165 lbs.” Through Him, I found the help I needed to believe, and six months later, succeed, near effortlessly dropping 46 then 43 lbs. after each pregnancy. And because I was 5’10”, I weighed more, but looked trimmer, so much so, people couldn’t believe it when I told them my weight. Even my late husband believed I needed to gain weight. Tall people can weigh more and look thinner, but let’s continue.
I stayed consistent with the principle of belief! If you want to achieve a goal that seems out of reach, move to Consistency Ave. This address will get you there every time, whether the goal is weight loss, building strength, increasing skills for employment, or etc. Don’t move away from your previously dreaded location of consistency but move there and stay. After a little while, it will make it worth your relocation. In my case, I stayed there with my beliefs, learned further principles that my body will reset to its original settings of telling me when I’m truly hungry (stomach near empty) or full (the next bite didn’t feel needed), just like it was made to do. I learned that food was for fuel, which was good, instead of emotions of boredom, frustration, etc., which was not good.
The consistency of believing and propelling my weight loss journey through right thoughts about it all (in bold italics above), birthed a momentum in me that only took a few months until it was done! I ate when my physiological told me that I was hungry, and I stopped eating when my physiological stomach told me I was full! I didn’t finish my plate just because there was food still on it. Some days, I wrapped it and saved it. Others, I threw it away (fast food). Many days I only ate twice a day, but I made sure to stay hydrated with water and even enjoyed soft drinks or hot cocoa, etc., when I wanted. There were no diet limitations — only to follow your natural, physiological (not emotional or traditional) promptings. Of course, eating this way also provokes an appetite for what’s healthier, but I also enjoyed cookies, cake and such whenever I wanted. What seemed hard was happening right in front of me, for me. I stopped wearing my maternity clothes and bigger sizes that no longer suited my new figure! I felt better! And all without the desired fads, foods, or equipment I thought that I needed. Goodbye failure!
What am I saying here? You can use belief, consistency and momentum to achieve your goals. I encourage you to. It works and you will build your achievement muscles inside you more if you do. I recently had an issue where my clothes were getting a bit tight again. I went back to what I’m saying here and the “achievement muscle memory,” if you will, was amazing, and my daughters are 17 and 14 now. Go back to the bold italics above, take my personal stats out and put some goals in there for yourself. Leave Christ in — He will help you. Define and believe that seemingly unattainable goal. Apply yourself to it everyday. Achievement will soon be yours! But Why stop there? Let’s keep going!
