Many of us have tried the traditional idlis a lot of times in our life but tasting the stuffed idli is a rare.
Stuffed idlis are filled with the freshness of seasonal veggies that have multiple benefits while enhancing the flavor of the dish.
Many a times we get bored with the mundane oats, Dalia recipe as a weight loss recipe but now here is a wonderful recipe that can be
opted as a weight loss option.
Let us dig into the recipe of this wonderful dish.
1. Sooji-1 cup
2. Curd- 1 cup
3. Salt-1 tsp
4. Water-1/4 cup
5. Vegetable oil-2 tbsp.
6. Cumin seeds-1/2 tsp
7. Sliced onion — 1 medium
8. Chopped Ginger- 1/2 tsp
9. Chopped garlic-1/4 tsp
10.Chopped Green chillies
11.Grated Carrot-1 cup
12.Boiled green pea
13.Coriander powder-1 tsp
14.Garam masala powder-1/2 tsp
15.Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
16.Red chilli powder-1/4 tsp
17.Dry mango powder-1/2 tsp(Amchur powder)
18.Boiled Potatoes-3 medium
19.Baking powder-1/2 tsp
For Batter
Mix 1 cup of sooji with a cup of curd. Add a tsp of salt to it. Now mix thoroughly while adding 1/4 cup of water to it.
Let the mixture rest aside for 30 mins… Pour little water to get desired semi thick consistency. Lastly add baking soda to the batter give a light mix to the batter.
For Stuffing
Now on a pan, heat 2 tbsp of vegetable oil. Add 1/2 tsp cumin seeds and sliced onions to it. Keep the flame on medium-low heat. Add chopped ginger, chopped garlic & chopped green chillies. Saute for 2 mins.
Add 1 cup of grated carrot & boiled green pea. After the veggies are partially cooked ,add the spices-coriander powder, salt, turmeric powder, garam masala powder, red chilli powder, dry mango powder. Saute till the raw smell of the spices fades away.
Finally add mashed boiled potatoes to it & make a dough of it.
Method of stuffing the veggies
Take a glass (cylindrical shape) & brush the inside of it with oil so that the batter doesn’t stick to its wall. Now pour 2 tbsp of the batter
inside the glass and give a little tap so that it gets settled evenly on the bottom. After that take ample amount of mashed potato mixture & make
cylindrical shape out of it (2cm diameter and same as the length of the glass). Now while placing the cylindrical stuffing at the Centre of the glass,
pour the batter surrounding the stuffing and cover it completely. Give a gentle tap so that everything inside settles down.
Steaming the stuffed idlis
Place a Boiling pan on the burner and place a stand on it. Pour 2 cups of water inside the pan and place the filled glass on the stand ,cover it and steam for 20–25 mins.
Check if they have completely cooked by poking with a toothpick inside out . If nothing sticks to the toothpick then the stuffed idlis are fully cooked. Now with the help of a knife , gently separate the idlis from the glass walls as demonstrated in the video. Then flip the glass upside down, the stuffed idli will come out of the glass . Finally, cut the idli pieces evenly & enjoy with sauce or green tea…
