Grant McCann admitted his side could have few complaints about Sunday’s dismal 2-0 home defeat to Stoke City, saying Hull City got exactly what they deserved from their high noon showdown in front of the television cameras.
McCann’s men succumbed to goals in each half from the play-off chasing Potters, who in truth, were not required to leave second gear as they coasted to a comfortable victory in front of a pretty despondent 11,000 crowd at the MKM Stadium.
Former Tiger Sam Clucas notched two assists, the first teeing up the unmarked Jacob Brown to head past Nathan Baxter 22 minutes before Clucas found another ex-City man in Tom Ince to crash in the second just five minutes into the second period.

It was arguably the Tigers’ most dispiriting display of the season and leaves them teetering above the drop zone, having played a game more than those below them, and McCann didn’t hold back in his assessment of a really poor afternoon on what felt like a really flat occasion after the excitement of last weekend’ FA Cup tie with Everton.
“We got what we deserved, it’s probably the poorest we’ve been for a couple of months. We were just not at it today,” McCann told Sky Sports.
“We lost too many second balls, we were careless in possession too many times and we didn’t look a threat when we went forward.
“Look, the scoreline is the right scoreline for me, there’s no hiding behind it.
“The one thing about this group is that they’ll keep going and we did – we kept going, we had a couple of half-chances but it was one of those days to forget and now we’ve got to polish ourselves up and go again on Wednesday.
“There’s no excuses today, I can’t stand here and give you any. We simply were not good enough and we got what we deserved.
“It’s not been like us, our performance levels have been high over the last eight or nine games, today we’ve dropped off it significantly and we’ve got what we deserved.
“Stoke played well, but we were well under par from where we have been.”
