We have all browsed the wares of an NPC or two to hoard up on health potions for the adventure ahead. Well, in Alchemy Garden, you get to play as the person behind the counter. Build your alchemy shop from the ground up, harvesting local plants and herbs, planting a few of your own, and getting to know the local townspeople.
Though Alchemy Garden is still in early access, there is quite a lot to do, and much that must be done before you can call your alchemy shop successful. Here’s what you need to know to become a renowned alchemist.
9 Upgrade Your Seed Expertise
As you level up, you have the choice to invest skill points into different expertise to make your alchemy journey a little smoother. While all of these skills are useful, the first skill tree you should try to fill out is Seed Expertise. This skill gives you the chance to gather seeds whenever you harvest plants, which can be planted outside your shop.
Seed Expertise is not only useful for planting your first alchemist garden, but for maximizing your chances of getting more seeds from your own garden. The less you have to travel, the longer your shop can be open.
The tutorial warns you against opening up your shop without having your display counter fully fitted with at least three potions. Ideally, you should actually have a lot more on reserve. This isn’t just so that you can constantly rotate what is on display, and keep the shop open for as long as possible.
As customers cycle through, some may browse your displayed wares and not find what they need. These folks will approach you and ask for something more specific. If you do not have that potion, you have to turn them away, and this negatively impacts your store’s customer satisfaction score.
7 Go Into Town Once A Day
Since Alchemy Garden is still in early access, the number of plants you can find every day is pretty slim pickings. As such, you might not find too much new each day. However, this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go looking.
Be sure to travel into town every day, not only to check the wares of the traders and the bulletin board requests, but to look for more plants hidden around the outskirts.
6 Buy A Workbench From The Town Trader
You can’t become a master alchemist without the right tools. Like any farming game, while you might be given a set of starter tools, in Alchemy Garden you will find that your tools degrade fast. Especially when cutting down trees or mining ore.
You can buy a workbench from the trader in town, which will allow you to craft brand-new tools of different qualities. If you are tight on coin or resources to craft tools, you can also buy tools directly from either of the traders in town.
5 Buy Daily Seeds
While there is a huge variety of different plants you can find in the world, not all of them can be found on any given day. To increase your chances of having access to a full variety of plants or completing your botanica in your journal, check the seed trader in town.
Every day they have a new selection of daily seeds, some of which you may have never found out in the wild – perfect for planting in your home garden.
4 Don’t Turn All Your Plants Into Potions
It can be tempting to turn all the plants and minerals you find into potions right away to maximize your profits, but you may want to hold off for two reasons. Firstly, though having potions on standby is always a good business practice, to really maximize your daily profits, it’s a good idea to treat your shop like any diner tycoon game, making custom potions for any picky customers on the spot.
The greater variety of plants you keep in reserve, the more you increase your chance of having exactly what customers need to improve your store’s rating. Keeping some materials stored is also a good idea for completing bulky bulletin board requests.
3 Be Mindful Of Your Energy
The concept of having an energy bar is probably not foreign to you, but in Alchemy Garden, chopping down trees or chipping into ore will take a lot out of you.
So while sprinting can save you a lot of time gathering materials for potions, be aware that sprinting does slowly take away from your energy as well. Start your day by doing energy-intensive activities first, so that you don’t end up sprinting all that energy away.
2 Visit The Cave Every Day
Just across the river from your shop, you will find a little cave shrouded in darkness. Clusters of ore will appear there every day, and these minerals can be used in potions just like plants can.
Different varieties of ore break down into Salt, Sulfur, and Mercury the same way that plants do, making mining in the cave an easy way to stock up on potion materials. Be aware that mining does take quite a lot of energy, so consider investing in Mining skills to reduce the amount of energy required for this task.
1 Experiment With New Potion Combinations
While all the plants and minerals you find might boil down to three basic components – Salt, Sulfur, and Mercury – the order in which you combine these components completely changes the final product. There are dozens of different potions to discover with these combinations, so it’s good to experiment. Many potions will sell for much higher than your basic Healing Potion.
Keep in mind, however, that as a “novice” some of the more advanced potions have a chance of failing. If that happens, your materials are used up, and you have to start from scratch. Investing skill points in the Potion Researcher skill improves your chances of brewing successfully every time.
