Former Home Secretary David Blunkett has suggested Prime Minister Boris Johnson could be a “security risk” due to haphazard operations in Downing Street.
Lord Blunkett, who served in Tony Blair’s Cabinet and now sits in the House of Lords, said evidence indicates the prime minister’s staff does not have “the first idea about the potential of cyber-attack” following leaked footage and emails about parties at Downing Street.
“The counterterrorism division of the Met, together with MI5, should take a very urgent look. I would be very surprised if they’re not,” Lord Blunkett told LBC.
“There’s a real problem, I think, at Downing Street in terms of understanding the genuine security that they should have in place.”
The comments come amid allegations in the Sunday Times that Mr Johnson left top-secret documents lying around when visitors came to his home.

As world leaders attempt to defuse the unfolding crisis on Ukraine’s border with Russia, the former head of the British Army, General Richard Dannatt, appeared to question Mr Johnson’s credibility in office.
“He will travel to Moscow, or wherever he’s going in eastern Europe this week, but everyone will know that he’s a man with a time bomb sitting under him,” said General Dannatt.
The Prime Minister remains in a compromised and uncomfortable position, with the civil servant Sue Gray continuing to produce a report into the Partygate scandal in which Downing Street staff are believed to have broken lockdown rules well over a year ago.
The report will be delivered to Mr Johnson because the Metropolitan Police has insisted it be censored to avoid prejudicing its probe into the goings-on. The move has been contested by lawyers.
