Public speaking was my big fear. I started to stumble over and lose the train of thought when people looked at me during my presentations. I thought my fear would stop one day without I take an attitude. However, it did not happen.
I realized my fear of public speaking was affecting my career and I had to look for strategies to win. Hence, I appealed to my good friend Google and I found a book about oratory. I applied the book tips, but I did not achieve the expected result. I explain Why at the end of the text.
Then, I kept looking and I found out these 4 strategies to overcome the fear of public speaking:
1. Find out the origin of the fear
What happened in my life that caused the fear? This is a question to reflect. The question’s answer does not appear overnight. I had to have calm and persistence. Meditation music helped me to achieve good results. I found out it was a situation in my childhood that caused my fear, and lack of confidence and perfectionism were at the origin of my fear of public speaking.
2. Fight off what gave origin to the fear
After I found out the origin of fear, I started to fight off it. As I did not have money to pay a coach, I decided to practice positive self-statements and I applied techniques of The Power of Subconscious Mind Book written by Joseph Murphy.
3. Look for people who win this fear
I found the people on social media and in my coterie. These people inspired me to win, shared the lessons that they learned with the fear and the strategies that they applied to win. A person told me that she repeated this interesting statement when she felt the fear of public speaking: People do not bite, only I bite.
4. Make lives about topics that you dominate
Speak about topics that you dominate not only helps me to overcome my fear, but it also improves my self-confidence. I made lives on my Facebook page and most of my followers gave me constructive feedback. It made me learn presentation techniques and lost my fear of public speaking. Nowadays, I usually get invited to radio plays and lectures to speak about topics that I dominate.
