If you happen to think architects always have an easy time of it when building, extending or renovating their own homes, it may be time to think again. For James Crowley, a planned four-month project to extend his traditional red-brick cottage in Phibsboro and reconfigure the existing space turned into a year-long self-build saga when his builder went out of business a few weeks before completing the job.
