People are expected to be encouraged to resume remote work over the festive period as Britain records 101 new Omicron variant cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to over 400 nationwide. The Telegraph has reported officials working on Covid policy have looked into the economic impact of encouraging people to work from home once again during the Christmas and New Year period.
Vaccine passports are also being considered as a measure to tackle increasing Omicron cases, the broadsheet reported.
The latest daily data from the UK Health Security Agency revealed 72 cases were found in England, 28 in Scotland, and one in Wales.
However, so far, no confirmed Omicron cases have been recorded in Northern Ireland.
It comes as the UK reported a total of 45,691 new coronavirus cases in the latest 24-hour period.

The Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has already asked the public to work from home until mid-January.
On Tuesday, the SNP leader asked people across Scotland to work from home to halt the “potentially rapid rise” of the Omicron variant and asked employers to ensure staff have the ability to resume remote work.
She said: “If you had staff working from home at the start of the pandemic, please now do so again.
“We’re asking you to do this from now until the middle of January when we will review this advice.”
Ms Sturgeon added: “I know how difficult this is, but I cannot stress enough how much difference we think this could make in helping step transmission and avoiding the need for even more onerous measures.
“If you were working at home at the start of the pandemic, please do so again for the next few weeks. None of this is what any of us want … but it is the best way of slowing the spread of the virus.”
