Care home residents in Honiton held their own ‘Glastonbury Festival’ and took a trip down memory lane, remembering their own ‘escapades’.

These photos show how the Gittisham Hill House residents dressed to impress, with festival hair and makeup, while reminiscing about going to Glastonbury and Worthy Farm in the 1950s and 60s.

The Honiton care home residents shared their decades-old stories of festival fun tales experienced in their youth at Glastonbury.

Eileen Andrews, aged 85, kept her festival gear on throughout the day, and when her daughters visited.

Resident Nora, aged 99, said the home’s festival day ‘took me back to my youth’.

Julia Heneker, home manager, said: “The annual Glastonbury Festival is a personal favourite of mine and to bring it to life at Gittisham Hill House for all to enjoy was wonderful.

“When you think how the festival has evolved over the years the residents were able to share their own stories of enjoying the festival back in the 50s and 60s and the fun escapades they got up to.  I’m not sure who enjoyed the stories the most; the residents or staff.”

Residents living at the nursing and dementia care home, on Sidmouth Road, Honiton, decorated their faces and hair with festival flowers and ribbons.

Music was played and a festival facts quiz held, with residents accurately remembering ticket costs in the 1970s and the name of the Somerset farm where the event is staged.
