Ireland suffered an agonising one-point defeat to England in their Home Internationals decider at Ballyliffin in a thrilling match that saw eight of the ties go down the 18th hole.

reland had led after the morning foursomes session, but the visitors edged the afternoon singles to claim an 11-10 overall victory which secured the title at the Donegal links.

Warrenpoint’s Colm Campbell completed his own personal unbeaten week by partnering Robert Brazill to a win in the foursomes, with Malone’s Matthew McClean also triumphing alongside Hugh Foley as Ireland took a 4-3 lead into the singles.

But England fought back in the afternoon, winning four points on the 18th green alone as they turned things around for the narrowest of victories which earned them the overall crown.
