A HISTORIC garden in Grappenhall Heys has won an international award for the fifth year in a row.
Grappenhall and Thelwall Parish Council is celebrating receiving the coveted Green Flag Award for Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden.
Over the past 18 months, the green space has been a ‘lockdown lifeline’ to many – playing a vital role in the community.
It has been somewhere for residents to relax, exercise and meet friends and family safely.
The award has been described as a ‘testament’ to the ‘hard work’ and ‘dedication’ of the staff and volunteers at the garden.
It also comes as the Green Flag scheme celebrates 25 years as the international quality mark for parks and open spaces.
The Green Flag Award criteria covers the environmental management of the site, biodiversity, landscape and heritage, community involvement and management.
