Kickstart your morning with a touch of health
As cliche as it sounds, starting the morning off on the right foot is a great way to start your health journey. The more time I have spent researching and coaching, I notice changing my clients morning habits/routine seems to be one of the most beneficial parts to their journey. Here are 5 tips to shake up your morning:
Tip #1: Hydrate
Research shows having anywhere between 12–20oz of water in the morning can not only wake up your body, but also jumpstart your metabolism for the day. When we are asleep our body is not consuming any sort of hydration for the time we are in bed, essentially starting our day off dehydrated. Getting that water back in your system will bring that morning energy and your body will thank you!
Pro Tip: Add a pinch or two of Pink Himalayan Salt for essential minerals and water absorption, add lemon for taste
Tip #2: Ditch the Phone
Waking up to natural sunlight is one thing, waking up to a rough blue light and scrolling for hours is another. Jumping on the phone right away in the morning creates a sympathetic response (fight or flight)to your central nervous system, essentially starting your day off in a high stressed state of being. Ditch the blue light for a bit and go straight to you normal routine, the phone can wait.
Tip #3: The Breakfast
Breakfast may seem daunting to many, in a world where there are many fad diets / fasting (not one to knock on any), but if you are someone who consumes breakfast regularly this tip is for you. Ditch the captain crunch and sugary carbohydrates and go for something more nutrient dense and with more protein, this will help keep you full and energized to start the day.
Example Breakfast: Egg Scramble —
2–3 Whole Eggs, Handful of Spinach, 1 Whole Bell Pepper, ½ Avocado
Tip #4: Making the Bed
May seem shocking, but, most studies show if you are to make your bed you are less likely to get back in it! Making one’s bed may not seem like the most important task, but on days when there is are a million tasks at hand, it is always nice to know you got to check off making the bed right away.
Tip #5: Movement
Movement is medicine, meaning that after laying in bed not moving your body for an extended amount of time your body will seek movement. This does not mean you have to rush to your 5am HIIT Class (Sorry Barry’s), but a morning walk, light yoga or stretching can do the trick. Promoting blood flow through movement has shown to increase mood, metabolism, reduce depression, and lower cortisol in one’s body.
Example: Listen to your favorite song or audio book on a walk, simple an effective
Hope these tips help you all become more consistent with your health and goals, and hopefully you learned a thing or two! I will be writing more the next coming months, working on two blogs a month, to bring more fun health tips, workouts, nutrition, and wellness goals to you all, so follow along for more.
