A couple of heavy home defeats, the latest to Trojans 1sts who are beneath them in the South Central Men’s Premier Division 1, has put Maidenhead Men’s 1sts season into a downward spiral.
After an impressive 7-4 victory over Winchester and draws with local rivals Slough and Banbury, Phil Cowell’s Maids looked to getting to grips with their transition to a new, higher, league this season, however, they’ve now lost their last two games, conceding nine goals in the process, and sit eighth in the table.
Maids had hoped to bounce back from their 5-0 home defeat to fourth placed Henley, but instead they again looked defensively suspect in Saturday’s 4-1 defeat to Trojans.
And the fixture list doesn’t make for particularly pleasant reading either with Maids set to face the league’s three top sides in ascending order, starting with Saturday’s trip to Oxford OBU, followed by their home game with Oxford University (November 20) and their trip to Reading 2nds on Saturday, November 27.
In the women’s South Central Premier Division 1, Maidenhead 1sts continue to struggle for form after losing 4-2 at Havant Women on Saturday.
Maids have lost four of their opening six matches, winning just one of them in the process, and sit third from bottom in the table.
They also face the daunting prospect of hosting league leaders Oxford Hawks 2nds at Altwood School on Saturday (11.30am start).
