1000-lb Sisters stars Amy and Tammy started their weight loss journey together. However, their experiences have been anything but similar.
On 1000-lb Sisters, Amy Slaton Halterman and Tammy Slaton have had very different dieting experiences, and it’s time to do a comparison of their weight loss journeys. They have each had their share of struggles and triumphs along the way. Even though they started trying to lose weight at the same time, their results aren’t the same.
When the show first aired in January 2020, Amy and Tammy collectively weighed 1,000 lbs. At the start of the show, Amy weighed 406 lbs. and Tammy weighed 605 lbs. They realized that they needed to make a change, as their health was starting to decline. The sisters then decided to embark on weight loss journeys together. Although they had different motivations to start the process, they wanted to complete it together.
Before becoming famous on the popular TLC show, they had their own YouTube channel. They quickly gained attention and a multitude of followers, and were known for their hilarious and relatable content. Their relationship has definitely been filled with ups and downs, but at the end of the day, they are always there for each other. Now, it’s time to track their respective weight loss results and compare them.
Amy Halterman
The 1000-lb. Sisters star Amy lost major weight when she embarked on her diet and fitness journey. Her success can be attributed to her commitment, dedication, and hard work. She really proved that she has what it takes. She had the support of Tammy when they first began, and also got love from her then-fiance, Michael Halterman.
Her upcoming wedding, and the desire to have a baby, were Amy’s biggest motivators, which kept her on track. She knew that if she could successfully lose the weight and get bariatric surgery, she would have a better chance of living her dream of becoming a mother. There were some setbacks along the way, but overall, she remained dedicated to her goal and was able to have surgery. Shortly after her operation, Amy revealed that she and Michael were expecting their son, Gage.
Tammy Slaton
During season 1, Tammy Slaton discussed her various health issues, citing them as her main motivation to lose weight. She was successful in the beginning, and she was progressing towards the goal of having bariatric surgery. However, Tammy’s cravings quickly took over, and she had a difficult time adhering to the recommended diet that her doctor put her on. She often got frustrated and bullied Amy into buying the junk food that she wanted. Tammy also went through some tumultuous relationships which were detrimental to her success.
She continued to gain more weight and surpassed her starting weight when the show first aired. Her eating habits spiraled out of control, and she refused to take any accountability for her failures. 1000-lb Sisters Tammy went to rehab for a short period, and did manage to lose weight while she was there. Once she decided to come home, she fell back into her old habits, undoing all of the progress that she had made.
Amy and Tammy had such contrasting results because their approach (and reasons for wanting to lose weight) were different. Food was comforting for Tammy, and she used it as an emotional crutch, especially when she was feeling frustrated and lonely. Her focus quickly shifted from taking care of herself to her love life. She longed to have a happy and successful relationship, but unfortunately, her romances ended in heartbreak.
Amy already had a happy and healthy relationship with Michael, so she didn’t have that distraction in her way. Having a baby was very important to Amy, and that hope pushed her through the difficult times. TLC has not confirmed when 1000-lb Sisters will be returning, but hopefully, they will both find success as they continue their journey.
