When I was having issues with international transactions with certain amounts, I came online to ask but I couldn’t get much help, so I am posting this here because someone might need this information.
See ehn…being a Nigerian is hard!😭

Some days you just wake up and discover some policies that frustrate the little hope for this country you have left in you.😫
CBN brought a new policy that you can’t spend more than $20 from your Mastercard monthly.
So if you’re travelling abroad you have two options.
1. Go change cash with Aboki
2. Get a prepaid dollar card, and dollar cards are given by different banks but are not linked to ANY BANK ACCOUNT.
It has its own client I.d but it’s not linked to any Nigeria bank account. This card is very expensive. (See the screenshot)
The annual card maintenance fee cost $20 (that’s about 12k😭)
The card issuance fee cost $3.15
There are SMS alert charges and 0.6% of the amount you withdraw with the card.
But If you manage to get the prepaid dollar card and you want to fund the card, you can’t go to the bank with Naira and ask them to send dollars to your prepaid card. Nigerian Banks do not do exchange and conversion so you have 2 options for funding your prepaid dollar card.
1. Go meet Aboki to change Naira to Dollar for you, then go to the bank with that dollar bill and they will fund your card…😕
2. You fund from your banking App.
But this is where it gets tricky.
If you have a UBA prepaid card, for example, you cannot fund it from a first bank app.
If you have a first bank dollar card, you can’t fund it from a Uba or Zenith bank app. You can only fund the card from the bank app that gave you the prepaid card.
So if you get a prepaid dollar card from UBA you have no choice but to
1. Open an account with UBA,
2. Get a UBA Naira debit card
3. Get the banking app.
But do you know how you know our Government is wicked?
The official dollar rate is less than 500 so if you shop online for an item of $10 you will pay about 4800. Now we’re forced to get prepaid cards because we can’t shop or do any transaction that is more than $20 with a Mastercard or Visa card.
With this dollar where you are charged IN DOLLARS… if you want to buy something of $100 instead of paying the official rate of 48k, you will go give Aboki 60k to get a $100 bill to put in your card so instead of buying that thing for 48k you’ll buy it 60k.🤣
I made a detailed tutorial about how to get virtual credit in African Countries like Nigeria, Ghana etc.
