Or, how I immediately screwed up my Medium feed
I just started on here last Sunday and clicked on several articles about people churning out content for money. Now my feed is just…absolutely wrecked? I don’t know how else to put it: I’m not sure I’m seeing anything written by actual human beings anymore. Even the people I followed.
It’s all the same people posting over and over and over about how they make thousands of dollars writing articles about how they make thousands of dollars writing articles about how they make thousands of dollars…
I hope they have family or friends to check on them. Something has gone wrong. I feel like I’m watching souls in Purgatory cry out to the living. “Help me! I quit my job and this is the only thing I can afford to spend time doing now! EeeEEeeEEee!”
Even if some of these articles are actually true, I don’t care. I’ve got the point. Anyone who’s ever clicked on one has got the point. What else is there to say?
“Write everyday.”
“See if you can submit to a publication.”
That’s it.
That’s how you can summarize all of them.
“Write every single day and you too can get rich writing about how you should write every day about getting rich writing every day about writing about writing…”
And I’m not hating. I respect the hussle. I understand. I’m probably not above it myself. If you find something that actually works, or might work, you’re gonna stick with it. Just wish I hadn’t clicked on any of them.
I feel like such a goddamn fool.
Now, back to work! Since I’ve started doing this, I’m actually excited to get out of bed in the morning. I’ve got all of these thoughts but so little time to think them out properly, tediously type them up, and then check it’s all somewhat coherent. Even if I can’t make money on here, I’m having fun for now.
