I Spent $120k Trying To Start A Successful Podcast

It was the biggest mistake of my life…

When I was a kid, my mother looked me in the eye and said I would be famous someday.

“Millions of people are going to know your name. It’s just a matter of time!”

I recently spent $120,000 building a podcast because I desperately wanted my mother’s prediction to come true. But sadly, my journey to fame, success, and unlimited wealth didn’t go as planned.

Here’s what happened:

Many people believe in the strategy of “faking it until you make it.” But as you can already tell, I’m not like other people because I refuse to be a member of the mediocre majority.

I always felt like I was destined to “make it.” I also wanted to impress Mark Zuckerberg because he’s my idol. So, despite my mother saying that I could use her basement as a podcast studio (for free), I said no because I didn’t want to invite famous people into her basement. That would be creepy.

A few hours after refusing the offer from my mother, I picked up the phone, pulled out my credit card, and spent my life savings on a beautiful podcast studio in Los Angeles.

It was great. The backdrop of my podcast had an incredible ocean view. And the best part? It was located a ten-minute drive from Los Angeles International Airport, making it highly convenient for guests to appear on my show. But due to heavy traffic from wannabe actors moving to the area, it often took an hour for people to reach my studio.

Welcome to California.

Okay, I might be exaggerating with that subheading. My podcast did make a little bit of money. Specifically, $5 over six months. It was pathetic.

I felt like I deserved more revenue. Way more. I invested my time and hard-earned money into building an incredible podcast studio. And yet, I didn’t even make enough money to purchase my usual coffee at Starbucks.

My “usual” is a Venti Latte with 5 shots of cinnamon, hazelnut, raspberry, and peppermint for anyone who wants to know. I also request five ounces of extra sugar because I like it sweet. Mmm.

I spent $120k trying to start a successful podcast. And in total, I made a net loss of $119,995. Of course, it’s difficult to lose that much money from an entrepreneurial venture in such a short amount of time. But since I’ve done it, there’s no reason Why you can’t, either.
