Inside Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s home: ‘Unimaginable wealth’

Meghan and Harry bought a luxury villa in California in June 2020, a few months after they decided to leave the UK and distance themselves from the British Royal Family. The mansion, where they live with their children, Archie and Lilibet, boasts nine bedrooms and a whopping 19 bathrooms.

The home sits in a villa with a swimming pool, a tennis court, and a huge garden – its surrounding area is 7.4 acres in total and has spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean.

Other highlights include a private gym, a spa, and a win cellar.

It also has a separate guesthouse where Meghan’s mum, Doria, stays when she visits the couple and their children.

In August, royal fans caught a glimpse of the pair’s lavish home when Meghan welcomed American publication The Cut inside the property to carry out an interview with her.

Meghan’s interviewer, Allison Davis, described the £11million mansion as being “the kind of big that startles you into remembering that unimaginable wealth is actually someone’s daily reality”.

She continued: “It evokes a classic Tuscan villa, a Napa vineyard, and a manicured Beverly Hills country club decorated with careful, considered coastal tones for a casual air – the home equivalent of billionaires dressing down in denim.”

The Duchess of Sussex started to describe the features of the house herself, noting the interior of her and Harry’s study with its “plush club chairs”, which were “like thrones”.

Meghan went on to say the home is where she “feels free”. It is unsurprising, then, that Meghan decorated the interior of the house herself, having been allowed the freedom to design it in the way she preferred.

One room boasts a grand piano, gifted to the couple by actor Tyler Perry, while plants, Soho House candles, and art pieces are dotted around the place, giving it a homely, comfortable feel.

Prior to The Cut’s interview, royal fans had already seen some corners of the royal couple’s mansion thanks to Meghan’s video calls during the pandemic.

One clip showed Meghan sitting on a huge chair beside a marble table with a stone fireplace behind her.

The walls were white and the floor nude, which seem to be the main hues throughout the house.

Other artworks seen in the house include a piece with the words “I love California” drawn on it.

According to a source, Meghan and Harry moved into the Montecito property after “falling in love” with it in June 2020.

The source told US Weekly: “Meghan visited Montecito in her teens and fell in love with the picturesque scenery and stunning architecture.

“Moving there was always an option, but to begin with, she and Harry wanted to give Los Angeles a shot. Unfortunately, Harry absolutely hated it – the timing was so wrong amid the [coronavirus] pandemic and they lacked privacy.

“An added bonus is that Montecito is only just over an hour’s drive from Los Anglese, which is where a majority of their work is based, yet far enough away to escape the crowds, paparazzi and tourism in Hollywood.”
