Irvine Meadow co-manager Colin Spence has challenged his players to step up a gear this year and make Meadow Park a fortress.
The Medda entertain Rutherglen Glencairn on Saturday in their first game of 2022 and Spence is determined to get off on the right foot.
Six of Meadow’s seven league defeats this season have come at home, scuppering their hopes of sustaining a challenge at the top end of the WoSFL Premier Division.
Now ninth in the table and looking over their shoulder at a seven-team drop zone, Spence insists it’s imperative they arrest that kind of form.
He said: “We know our home record has to be in a much better place this year.
“It’s a strange one because some of our best performances have come at home.
“We’ve put five past the likes of Kilwinning, Cumbernauld and Penicuik – some really good sides.
“In the games we’ve lost, it’s generally been a case of results not reflecting performances.
“But we’ve got to learn from that and turn good performances into wins.”
Spence knows that will be no easy feat against a Rutherglen side who have been something of a surprise package this season.
They currently sit two places and two points ahead of Meadow, giving Saturday’s clash even more importance.
“They are doing really well,” Spence warned.
“We were really lucky to beat them 2-1 earlier in the season so we will need to be at it on Saturday.

“Rutherglen play with sheer energy and enthusiasm which makes them a really difficult opponent.
“We will need to match that while making sure we stay composed and concentrated.”
January looks set to be a big month for Meadow with games against bottom-half sides Troon, Cumnock and Cumbernauld to come.
But Spence added: “We just need to take things one game at a time. Things can change very quickly in this league.”
