Browsing through stunning home renovations online, Worcestershire mum-of-three Maria Thomas decided she could do just as well for her kitchen – and managed to it on just £54.

The creative 36-year-old from Kidderminster was inspired by stylish interior decor on Pinterest and adapted it for her own feature wall behind the dining table in her kitchen diner.

By day Maria is an administrator at a care home but once out of work, she loves to upcycles furniture as a hobby. For this latest project, she bought wood batons, LED lights, paint, glue and nails to create the look that could be in any glossy home magazine.

They bought stick-on LED lights from Amazon for £20, Alfresco Dusky Blush Frenchic paint for £20 and all the wood, glue and nails from B&Q for £14.

The family can even switch on the lights using Alexa as they use a smart plug.

Maria said: “I think decorating yourself is definitely easier than you think – it’s just scary starting a project. The upheaval and the mess can be a put off.

“For this project, I just looked at what other people had done on Pinterest and Facebook and put our own twist on it.”

Maria’s children – Spencer, 16, George, 10 and Ollie, four – were thrilled with how it all turned out too, especially as Maria is working her way around sprucing up the rest of the house.

“I started getting into decorating with a table. I painted the base and sanded and waxed and it just went from there.
