Boris Johnson has advised “Go to work if you must, but work from home if you can” — which sounds simple enough, but here is the problem: define “if you must” or “if you can”.
Employers have been grappling with this issue throughout the pandemic and are having to do so again. Limited government guidance has meant employers have to make a call on whether staff “can” work from home or “must” go into the office. And this has led to a variety of approaches across businesses.
