A mental health charity is hosting a fundraising event to raise money for a water filtration system for its new garden.
MIND in Furness was donated a garden that won a gold medal at the RHS Chelsea Garden Show. MIND in Furness are calling it their Mind Garden.
Fundraiser James Dowds, from MIND, said: “The garden is there for people to sit down and collect their thoughts for five to ten minutes of the day. Just take a bit of me time after discussing difficult topics.
“We need a water filtration system to keep it hydrated. It will cost £10,000. The money is going to be donated to keep this water system in place.”
A gig is being held Cloud 9 on July 2. The main artists on the bill are John Halligan as Elvis, and Route 66 Legacy, a rock and indie tribute band.
The tickets will be £5 on the door. James said that he kept the ticket price low.
“I want to encourage as many people to attend as possible. We want to fill out Cloud 9, which has a capacity of 400 people,” he said.
“A lot of people find it hard to speak out. There will be MIND volunteers at the event, so if anyone wants an opportunity to have a chat they are more than welcome to.”
MIND in Furness offers men’s group sessions, women’s group sessions, and general peer support sessions. It also provides an arts and craft group and specific group sessions for people experiencing mental health problems and for those hearing voices.
It also owns four one bedroom flats in the centre of Barrow for clients with mental health problems. Staff can provide support to maintain tenancies and promote recovery.
The Mind Garden was designed by eight-time RHS Chelsea Flower Show gold winner Andy Sturgeon.
The plants have been grown and cared for by UK nursery Crocus, who have won 20 Gold Medals at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show Gardens to date.
