I should know- My Self-Esteem Sometimes Needs a LOT of Raising- Try my Techniques though- They work for me!

I have found that it is important that you surround yourself with people who are optimistic, that think in a positive way about themselves and others. Find people who make you feel good about yourself and avoid those who tend to trigger negative thinking. Build relationships with these people and avoid relationships that drag you down. Learn from other people who value you and care more about you than toxic friends think. Try to distance yourself from people who make you feel guilty. I like to think of myself as “flying with the eagles” and not associating with the “turkeys”. Kind of trite, I know. But it reminds me to associate with people that can help me raise my own self-esteem. [Sources: 1, 6, 11]

The best way to feel safe is to help others feel safe. Positive affirmations only work for a subset of people: those whose self-esteem is already high. For some people, the more positive affirmations they have, the more likely they are to undermine their self-confidence through negative self-talk. I have only a few affirmations that I use. I have found that using the same affirmation or a few of them over time, are very effective in raising my self-esteem. It works for me. I am confident it will work for you as well. Try it! With regard to charity, I would advise everyone to get used to thinking and saying positive things about themselves and their surroundings. To see something positive about yourself, it’s a good idea to write it down, for example: “it’s a good sport”, or “I am healthy and have a positive outlook on life”, or repeat something nice that people say about you. When you start to feel low, look at these positive affirmations and remember that there is a lot of good in you. [Sources: 6, 9]

The more you strengthen the good and optimistic things in your life, the higher your self-esteem will be. When you have high self-esteem, you feel more confident and know that you are a good person who deserves good things. Investing in your own value is one of the best and most productive ways to spend your time. I have to remind myself that this technique is one that pays off in the most gratifying ways over time! I used to feel unworthy of being paid to do something that took me a long period of time for me to negotiate the amount I got paid. I felt unworthy of love and struggled to find secure bonds with good people. [Sources: 4]

Many of us recognize the value of improving our self-esteem. It is amazing how much our self-confidence is boosted when we do selfless things, even if it is just one thing a week to help someone without expecting anything in return. Doing things for those who respect themselves is one of the keys Hershenson has found to have worked to increase his value. I have also adopted this strategy on many occasions and found it to be a very effective way to raise my self-esteem. [Sources: 5, 8, 11]

People with good, healthy self-esteem can feel good because they value themselves and are proud of their abilities and achievements. People with high self-esteem tend to have high respect, trust and value. They exude confidence, feel comfortable in themselves and feel attractive. [Sources: 4, 10]

People with low self-esteem often suffer from low self-esteem and feel bad about themselves. Feelings of low self-esteem can affect your mental health and other areas of life, such as work, relationships and physical health. [Sources: 4, 5]

Comparing yourself to other people is a safe way to feel fragile. It is human nature to compare and aspire to be like everyone else. Being exposed to images and status updates that a perfect life represents can bring you down and lower your self-esteem. This is because you feel that your own life is not in line with these images of “perfection”. While it is common for people with low self-esteem to compare themselves to others and think other people are superior to themselves, take a moment to look at yourself the same way as other people. I have found it to be most useful to repeat my favorite affirmation(s) when I feel like I am undergoing a period of self-doubt and low self-esteem. It has worked for me over the past few years in a most lasting and satisfying way. Try this technique yourself! [Sources: 1, 9]

Sometimes you may feel that it is easier to give yourself a hard time and think that you are not good enough. Constant stress can cause you to feel negative thoughts. It can reduce the enjoyment of many things you like to do.

However, if you focus more on being kind to other people rather than exclusively to yourself, and replace perfectionism with a more realistic habit, it will be easier to maintain your self-esteem as an important influence in your life, rather than pulling it down daily or weekly. Although such people feel great about themselves most of the time, it happens that all too often they tend to be exposed to criticism and negative feedback and respond in ways that inhibit their psychological growth and self-growth.

We must remind ourselves that we are unable to control the emotions of those around us who applaud us. When we experience a lot of criticism and rejection from others, unfortunately, our self-esteem suffers even when we support it in other ways. When there is little excitement or change in our lives, our self-esteem suffers because we feel we are not living an exciting and interesting life. [Sources: 2, 8, 9]

The attitudes and behaviors of other peoples can also contribute to our lack of trust. If you have ever been bullied, if you have been the subject of microaggression in the workplace, or if you feel that people make unfair assumptions about you, then you need to address these behaviors with a coping mechanism that works for you. The way you would cope would depend on the circumstances in which you find yourself.

The best way to avoid reflexive responses, such as wiping compliments away, is to prepare a simple set of answers and prepare to use them when you get good feedback: “Thank you,” you say. [Sources: 2, 8]

Healthy self-esteem is important because it helps to make positive decisions in everyday life and gives you the courage to be yourself, to have good relationships and to deal with difficult situations.

When people think about self-esteem, their inner voice is self-dialogue, the voice that tells you that you are good enough and can accomplish anything. The voice of your inner critic can inspire you to do things, to do things and to gain the acceptance of the people in your life. I have also found that having a close friend or mentor can help in very meaningful and long-lasting ways. [Sources: 0, 6, 11]
