If you have been following along, I have posted about my coding bootcamp projects and my bootcamp experience. This post will be about what is next. Let’s dive in!
There are a few things on my mind after completing my self-paced bootcamp program. Coding, staying curious, my brand, a unified message, teaching and real world coding experience.
Number one is coding. I actually cannot wait to keep coding. I find it soothing and complex. Now that I have some background in projects I am going to start expanding my portfolio. There are some standard portfolio projects that you see everyone recommending. Weather application, store front, messaging application, and others. These are great! I will probably dive in and make some clones but the first thing on my mind is coding something that might be of use to my wife and her restaurant. The first one is very easy and it’s just code, code, code.
The next is staying curious. I really want to continue to get outside of my comfort zone. That takes asking questions about how things work and seeing if I can duplicate the results. When I think about my next steps staying curious is the least of my concerns because I feel like I am naturally asking questions. Now it is time to find the answers!
My brand is important to me. I have never had anyone tell me good job in my life. I have been more alone than supported throughout my careers and life. Now that I have completed something for the first time, I feel like I have something to showcase and be proud of. I want to use that energy to help others. I want to remember my brand and the determination I showed then encourage myself others to be supportive to people in need.
Along with my brand is a unified message. I want to make sure that no matter where I work I have a “slogan” for myself. I want it to be positive and supportive. I have a lot of thinking to do because now I can create a profile of myself. That is extremely exciting to me! My profile is going to be a good one.
I have been a manager in a variety of different industries. I have always enjoyed watching other succeed. Over the course work, I encouraged another to look into a bootcamp. He took a prep course and needed help understanding JavaScript. This was perfect for me. I was self taught in JavaScript and I was, at the time, getting more in depth with the language. I used the opportunity to teach him the fundamentals. I really enjoyed helping him. I am not sure how but I know I would like to incorporate teaching as I progress. Since there are a variety of ways to do that I will have to decide what medium is good for me.
Last but not least. It’s time to hop into the real world and code for a company. I am super excited for this. I have been blessed to only focused on my studies. I feel like it is time. I cannot wait to take my new skills into the work place. I will keep you posted. I have a lot of thinking to do.
