I want you to pause. Close your eyes and breathe. Focus on your breathing and allow yourself to smile. Open your eyes, head off into the world armed with this positive energy.

Now to be fair, I’m not asking you to drop everything you are doing, leave your job, chase your dreams, take Instagram pictures of maldives, travel the world, go skydiving with dolphins. No. I’m just asking for a little space in your life for mindfulness. Mindfulness is important for many reasons. It gives you space in your life to reflect, recharge and live well. It allows you to unplug from the information overload we face every day.

This is Why we’re here — to experience the bliss of everydayness. To touch, to feel, to see and to breathe.

Every once in a while, you’ll go through tough times. You’ll feel like the universe has it out for you (or that you won’t get another moment of happiness). Everything will seem unusually difficult, and on some occasions, seemingly impossible. If you find yourself feeling stressed out more than usual, maybe you should take a step back and breathe.

To appreciate and understand experiences so much so that we don’t chase and run after them. That we stop seeing our reality through the lens of our wants and needs. To see and appreciate the daily miracles we encounter, to be conscious of the causal relationships we form with our surroundings and above all, to find joy in what’s here now.

Contrary to popular belief, there are actually moments of beautiful stillness in our lives. However, you‘re likely not experiencing them if you don’t pause to notice and admire them. The stressful, fast-paced lifestyles we live in today… it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of each day and not even notice we’ve become tense and overly stressed.

Most of us spend far too much time on our computers and smartphones and other gadgets and we’re deeply immersed in our work, social behaviour and other things that we never take a break from. This makes it very difficult to stop the constant thinking, habits and actions that we normally perform.

We are constantly in search of that sense of calm, that feeling of being all right just as we are. But sometimes, our quest for happiness overtakes our awareness of the present moment — a moment when everything is OK.

Often, we get caught up in achieving our goals, trying to do more and ultimately striving for perfection. The key is to be here right now, to experience the present.

Life is for living and as such, it is not a spectator sport. We’re all engaged in an infinite dance, and we call our own steps. We take risks and we fail — we stumble — we fall — but each last breath we draw is sacred, and we should cherish it.

Learning how to relax and let go is a simple concept, yes — but carry out the instructions and you’ll be surprised how difficult it actually is. The truth of the matter is, we don’t have any idea what to do with ourselves when we take time out or put bad habits aside for a moment. Relaxing means taking a break from what we’re normally doing and stop focusing on tasks that take up most of our time.

When you take time out to relax, not only will you regain control of your mind and body, but it gives you an opportunity to take control. It provides an opportunity for you to focus on yourself and not your daily tasks.

You would be surprised at just how good you feel taking time out. You might even be able to solve some issues that have been bothering you for weeks on end, once you’ve relaxed your body and mind.

Yes, that’s the end of the article. Now, Pause, Breathe, Smile.
