Astounding images show the moment a sparrowhawk captured a starling for its morning feast.

The pictures were taken by Chris Algar who spotted the bird of prey in his garden in Belton, near Gorleston-on-Sea.

The bird can be seen capturing the unsuspecting starling before tucking into its morning feast.

A sparrowhawk is a small bird of prey that hunt best in confined spaces such as woodland or gardens.

The male birds can be distinguished by blueish-grey back wings and orangey-brown bars on their chest and belly.

The females tend to have brown backs and wings, and brown bars underneath.

But nothing can distract from their piercing bright yellow-orange eyes and their long yellow legs.

Male sparrowhawks can catch birds up to the size of a thrush, but the females are much bigger, allowing them to be able to catch birds up to pigeon size.
