A 130-acre brownfield site owned by Tata Chemicals and Inovyn Enterprises could be redeveloped into a major mixed-use scheme under plans lodged by the developer. 

Congleton-based Gladman Developments is working with the landowners to progress plans for Winnington Works that include 1,500 homes, a mix of houses and apartments, as well as 118,000 sq ft of specialist accommodation. 

In addition, the Northwich plans include 83,000 sq ft of employment space, a primary school and a local centre. 

An outline planning application for the Winnington Lane site has been submitted to Cheshire West and Chester Council. 

The land, known as Winnington Works, was earmarked for redevelopment in the authority’s local plan following the closure of Tata’s soda ash and calcium chloride plant in 2014. 

Bound by the River Weaver, other key features of the proposals include a four-acre public park, a high-density residential community and riverside walk opposite the Anderton Boat Lift and the redevelopment of Winnington Island to accommodate the employment space and a care home.
