Top scorer Ryan Hardie set Plymouth Argyle on their way to a 2-0 win against AFC Wimbledon at Home Park with his 17th goal of the season in all competitions.

Relegation-threatened Wimbledon had not won any of their previous 16 games in League One but made a good start against the Pilgrims.

Striker Sam Cosgrove should have put the visitors ahead in only the eighth minute but sent a close range header against the base of a post, as goalkeeper Mike Cooper made his 100th appearance for Argyle.

The Pilgrims made the most of that let-off when they took the lead in the 28th minute with a clinical finish from Hardie after he was set up by a clever pass from Danny Mayor.

Argyle went on to double their advantage shortly after the hour mark as midfielder Ryan Broom slotted home when he was picked out by a low cross from Niall Ennis.

It was a second successive 2-0 home win for Steven Schumacher’s side, following their defeat of Morecambe on Saturday, and they moved up to sixth spot in the table.
