Speaking on her LBC show on Sunday the journalist and sister of the Prime Minister pulled no punches as she claimed the practice needs to end, or failing that, if companies are to pursue a hybrid method of work, it must guarantee equal time for men and women in the office.

Ms Johnson said: “Working from home and the issues of around it are just not a joke at the moment.”

The LBC host went on to note how many companies are considering a permanent shift to work from home.

But Ms Johnson furiously slapped down the idea as she revealed that her three children are currently working from home.

She said how she thought it is in fact “terrible: for young adults starting their careers to be working in such a way.

But in a sobering moment she suggested how the practice of working from home also has concerning reverberations for women.

She said: “I also think it is terrible for women because I think it catapults women back into an environment where they were expected to stay at home doing a double or even a treble shift!

“With young children, elderly parents and also doing their own jobs.”

Ms Johnson went on to share how she “throughly enjoyed” going back into the office after giving birth to her third child.

She added: “You’re going to have men at work like that song and you are going to have women at home.”

She said such a situation is “incredibly regressive in my opinion”

Ms Johnson went on to suggest that if companies are going to pursue “hybrid” forms of working then it is vital both men and women have got to have equal opportunities to work in the office as well as at home.

The LBC presenter concluded: “Equal opportunities have to stretch to workplace as well as to hours and to pay!”
