As entrepreneurs or leaders in general, we are faced with a lot of decisions.
I believe we are more valuable in our decision-making than in doing the actual work.
I’m probably going to write a lot about this in the future, from different angles and circumstances…but today, let’s talk about one way to deal with forks in the road.
Things like:
Should I take that client/job?
Should I adopt this new strategy?
Should I hire this person?
Should I relocate there?
When faced with this, ask yourself:
Are you pushed or pulled?
If you feel pulled by a direction, there is a better chance it’s the right one.
If you feel pushed, rushed, or FOMO…it’s a signal to either stop or decides against it, entirely.
Being pulled usually means that you’re being called.
It might not always be explainable, and it might not always turn out the way you wanted.
But most of the time, you can recover if the worst-case scenario happened.
You’ll have the knowledge and insight, and maybe even the connections, to lead you to the ultimate goal (or something even better that you didn’t expect).
And, you won’t be riddled with regret. “Shoulda, coulda, woulda” is a virus.
Being pushed usually means that you are “just doing what you’ve always done” instead of doing what’s better, really matters, or can change your life.
It means you’re probably following someone else’s agenda and not yours.
Or, you’re operating from a scarcity mindset — which usually ends badly — instead of abundance.
That’s it.
It seems overly simple, but I’d argue that we tend to overcomplicate our lives and have normalized complexity.
Maybe it’s time to do the exact opposite, for a chance that the outcome could be exactly opposite, too. #whataconcept
