It was a super Saturday in the Scottish Premiership but none of the results suited the two teams in action today.
St Mirren’s hopes of a top six place were ended by other results while Rangers fell nine points behind leaders Celtic after the leaders romped to victory at home to St Johnstone.
And both sides desperately need the win in Paisley with the Ibrox side looking to cut the gap at the top to keep their slim title hopes alive while Stephen Robinson’s side are looking to ease any relegation worries.
Both sides go into the match in poor form with St Mirren having lost their last three in a row and Gers suffering back to back losses.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst saw his side lose the Old Firm derby at Ibrox seven days ago and followed that up with defeat in the first leg of their Europa League quarter final clash against Braga.
The Dutchman will be hoping to restore confidence ahead of the return leg against the Portuguese outfit.
