Status Update: How It’s Been, Where It’s Going.
Yeah, the whole Weight Watchers deal, it ain’t working. It’s not the WW system itself, though, it’s our “inability” (read: laziness) when it comes to making food, getting groceries regularly, etc. It’s not that we’re really that lazy; by the time we start getting lazy it’s evening time, the baby is sleeping, and we’re exhausted. This all stems from the desire to have a million different recipes cooked every week, then failing and ordering takeout because I worked late, or the baby didn’t go to bed when we expected, etc. In short, we are over-thinking it way too much. This post is my attempt to determine my first step in getting back on track.
When I think about it, a major factor impeding my progress is overthinking the whole systematic approach to making WW work. We’ve got so much going on with the kid and house upkeep, and I’m working within several complex systems, such as maintenance of my rental properties (still trying to simplify that), so I can’t have eating better become yet another messy system. So, the new framework is as follows:
- Don’t eat after 8:00pm; water or tea only
- Make all meals at home Sunday-Thursday, mandatory
- Track food, water, exercise in the app
- Move daily 15+ minutes
Simple. Not necessarily easy, but not a lot of thought required. With supporting systems such as curb side grocery pickup (to keep us focused only on the foods we need), the ability to block out time in my calendar, and a home gym (or entire world in which to go walking), it is a lot easier. We don’t need to focus on specific meals or anything fancy. As long as we’re not picking up drive-thru or snacking until bedtime, we’re off to a great start. So we’re kind of starting this system from scratch, and hopefully the progress reports will improve. Aiming to update in two weeks, after giving this a proper shot within our new framework. Until then!
