A STOURBRIDGE woman is celebrating after losing four stone, removing her need for insulin injections.
Su Wood, who has lived with diabetes since she was 19-years-old, reduced her symptoms after shedding the weight with Slimming World.
Su, who attends the group in Norton and has gone from a size 22 to size 14, said: “I would need to take inject insulin at every meal to manage the condition and my blood sugar was dangerously high, my weight was seriously impacting my health, I needed to take control of my weight to help manage the condition.
“Being overweight impacted on so many aspects of my life, from worrying about my health, struggling to find clothes to fit to not being able to do simple everyday tasks without feeling out of breath. I always felt like I was lacking energy, and like I was on a slippery slope to gaining more and more weight – I didn’t really see a way out.”
Su took on a Slimming World food plan and swapped takeaways for homemade meals.
She said: “I love food and it’s never once felt like I was on ‘a diet’ – even during lockdown I’ve been able to make whatever is in the supermarket or my store cupboard fit with my diabetes care plan.
“Thanks to the changes I’ve made my health has improved dramatically and I no longer to inject insulin everyday as my blood sugar reading is now in the normal range. I’ve got my life back and I couldn’t be happier.”
Caroline Pitt, who looks after groups in Stourbridge and Halesowen said: “Our groups are fully open and we know more people than ever will be looking for support to embrace the coming months feeling happier and healthier.
“Looking after our health is more important than ever right now, and the changes Su has told us about are incredible. I hope her success will inspire other people who’d like to lose weight, improve their health and form new lifestyle habits to take action.”
