Stout defence of Dublin beer garden against hotel expansion | Ireland

A Green Party TD has vowed to appeal against a council decision allowing a large expansion of a city hotel that will result in the closure of a popular beer garden which connects three pubs.

Dublin city council granted permission to JMK Group, a British real estate company, to expand the Holiday Inn Express at its premises on O’Connell Street, adding 89 new guest rooms.

JMK Group had originally applied for a seven-storey extension, but that was refused following concerns from the council about daylight loss for surrounding buildings on Parnell street. Instead, a slightly lower six-storey extension was granted.
