One of the consequences of losing weight is the great wardrobe audit, the very definition of a mixed blessing. On the plus side, I can enjoy the ego boost of fitting into trousers that only six months ago would have stopped cooperating around mid-thigh. I also get to go upstairs to our bedroom with my wife during the day, which carries a certain frisson, albeit only in my imagination, Nicola staying resolutely on task throughout.
The downside is having to struggle in and out of lots of pairs of trousers one after another. It’s fitting-room hell, basically, but worse – the discomfort and tedium of trying on clothes not being something you expect to suffer in your own home.
