This fast-paced world needs everything to be delivered quickly. From coffee to carrier growth everyone needs everything without waiting. Similarly, the service-oriented IT sectors need applications to be delivered at the market with less development time and quick testing. This thirst gave birth to Rapid Application Building(RAB) is also called Rapid Application Development(RAD). The first generation children of this evolution are the Low Code Development Tools.

Why this is important for every IT Employee?
The traditional way of developing enterprise software applications are slowly vanishing. These platforms are giving lots of opportunities for the companies to make profits with less resource capacity. This is also a money-making platform for the people who know how to use these tools.
These platforms provide visual editors with drag and drop functionality to create applications. You don’t need to have the front-end programming knowledge anymore to design a webpage. The back-end will be hosted on the cloud by default. The logic and decisions can be created with process modelling. With smart connectors, we can connect the application with APIs to fetch information or can connect to other cloud services and can do much more without knowing how to code.
Is it that easy?. Yes, it is. These modern tools are going to make life easier. But at some point, you may need some coding knowledge still. Because it is Low-Code, not No-Code.
Is this a threat to developers?
In my opinion No, not really. This is not going to replace your developer job instead this will help you to focus on the core application logic. You can make applications faster than before and can finish the testing with a button click.
What it can do?
- Develop and deploy applications faster.
- Make changes to the existing applications easier.
- Create applications with zero programming knowledge.
- Use templates to create apps with the click of a button.
- Less infrastructure maintenance and focus on the requirements.
- Create once and make it available for web, mobile, tablet.
What may not be available?
- Cannot do out of the box changes. Only have to work with the given functionalities.
- Not mature enough to handle all the IT requirements.
- Cannot design the front-end with the latest design trends.
Conclusion
The low-code platforms will be the next big thing. The global market size is projected to reach USD 39790 Million by 2027, from USD 5861.3 Million in 2020, at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 30.9% during 2021–2027.
This blog is made to give you an overview of low-code platforms and is entirely in my opinion. I have worked with Appian, but not with the other enterprise low code tools available in the market.
