A DORSET care home hosted its own community awards to celebrate everyday heroes in the community.

Trinity Manor Care Home in Sherborne asked people online to nominate special people who have put others before themselves or performed selfless acts in order to help others.

With NHS workers and carers being recognised during the pandemic the home wanted to celebrate people in the community who go unnoticed, with the winner drawn by one of the residents.

Trinity Manor’s deputy manager, Paul Pippard, said: “We were delighted to announce Helen Whitemore as the overall winner and give her the title of our Community Love Champion 2022.

“Helen has helped those around her so much, putting everyone else first, which is what this award is all about.”

Activities co-ordinator, Laura McAllister, added: “Helen was nominated by her daughter Lisa, who felt that her Mum constantly went above and beyond for her family; helping to look after her own Father, whilst offering childcare for Lisa’s young children, which in itself are wonderful and selfless acts, yet in addition to this, Helen has been battling with her own ongoing health issues – what an amazing lady.”
