Earlier this year, Jason McNiff released ‘Tonight We Ride’, a covers album featuring songs by artists who have influenced and inspired him. In his album review, David Pratt concludes, “Imbibed with Jason’s own personal takes, nuances and shades, Tonight We Ride is a resounding success; get in the saddle, or indeed on-board, for a very productive musical journey.”
For those familiar with Jason McNiff, it will be no surprise that there are two Bert Jansch covers on the album, including ‘Running from Home”. Jason shared the following on the song:
“I used to hang about in Soho a lot when I first started my career, playing in places like Bunjies, the Acoustic Cafe and the 12 Bar Club. Coffee shops and folk music were what I associated with it, from a bygone era of Greek Street’s legendary Les Cousins, where you could still hear faint echoes of Paul Simon, Cat Stevens, Davy Graham and Bert Jansch. In fact, back in the 90s, Bert was just starting his comeback with a residency at the then-new 12 Bar club, a converted forge down the back alleys of Denmark Street. I used to go watch him every week. Beautiful days of being young and in London, which is what this song is all about. It was fun to go back to Soho to shoot this video. The venues are all gone now, but if you listen really carefully, you can still hear those wonderful echoes.”
