The Daily Biscuit — Feb 16 2022 — A 247 word snack-sized piece of wisdom about enjoying the struggle from today’s journal.
The education sector is known for acronyms and one that gets a bad wrap is…PGD.
One of the things that may make you consider a career change from teaching — perhaps to a telemarketer, getting called colourful names hung-up on by overly-agitated adults — is playground duty (PGD).
Sometimes, small groups of kids/land pirates occupy areas of schools by force and intimidation and it can make you question the future of humanity.
How do you know if you’ve drawn the short straw with one of these ‘necks of the wood’? Speak the name of the PGD area to a teacher who’s been at the school for long enough to know. Watch their reaction. That’s how you know.
Nevertheless, PGDs can also be the best! There are so many great kids out there and what a great way to get to know them— no requirement to get through curriculum; just pure connection. Rad!
I was doing my PGD on the outdoor courts this week — I haven’t had that area for a while. For the first week, I stood back and watched. Here’s how I know I’ll enjoy this area.
There were four half-courts of basketball going and in 20 minutes I saw 7 shots go in. Seven. In a cumulative 80 minutes of ‘hooping’. 14 points, total.
Here’s the thing though: They loved it. They kept shooting. They stayed in the game. They were having fun and enjoying the struggle together. No drama.
Bring on next week.
Will you keep shooting, keep having fun and enjoy those in the struggle with you when you feel like you keep missing in life?
