Two bouncers have been jailed for raping a woman after taking her home from a nightclub.
Hassan Bockarie and Iyoseph Derry were jailed after attacking the woman in her 20s back in December 2018.
The pair raped the “visibly intoxicated” victim at a flat in Birmingham after offering to take her, and her friend, home from a nightclub they were working at in Wolverhampton.
They targeted the woman after seeing she was intoxicated and buying her more drinks, West Midlands Police said.
The men dropped one of the women home but then drove the victim to the flat where the attack took place.
Bockarie initially denied any knowledge of the women, but after a three-year investigation, which led police to uncover DNA evidence linking him to the attack, he changed his account.
The 34-year-old, from Erdington, was sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in prison.
While Derry, 33, was found guilty of rape following a trial, as well as aiding and abetting rape, and jailed for 10 years at Birmingham Crown Court, the force said.
‘She has shown such courage and bravery’
Detective Constable David Powles was one of the officers involved in the lengthy investigation and praised the victim for coming forward.
He said: “Bockarie and Derry took advantage of their position as security doormen and could see the woman was visibly intoxicated at the time.
“Despite the evidence, both men denied the charges, pleading not guilty and putting the woman through the further ordeal of a trial.
“She has shown such courage and bravery in standing up to them and supporting our investigation. I hope these sentences provide a sense of comfort and closure to her, so that she can begin moving forward with her life.”
