Readers have been responding to a story about a weight loss group that has been encouraging people to develop a healthier lifestyle and lose weight as a way of developing mental toughness.

Denise, from Workington, lost an astounding five stone in her own personal weight loss journey with Slimming World.

She says that losing weight in a group environment made the process much simpler and she was able to do so with more ease.

Since then she has completed the Coast to Coast and a triathlon.

She said: “Slimming worlds food optimising plan and group are my therapy and I would recommend that everybody does it for their own self esteem.”

The mental toughness findings are supported by member data from Slimming World groups which reveals that as members progress on their weight loss journey, they feel more sociable, happier, calmer and more peaceful, and feel they have more energy.

They are less likely to say they feel downhearted, stressed, or anxious compared to non-members from the general population.

Dr Elizabeth Stamp, who studied the role of mental toughness on health-related lifestyle behaviour change, said: “The study revealed that Slimming World members participating in the study lost on average 2st 5lbs over the six months and on average also increased their mental toughness.”

Linda Stubbs Was Pearson shared a positive story on a similar weight loss journey: “I can’t recommend Slimming World enough, thanks to Slimming World I’m a lot healthier.”

Simon David Coope also had good things to say about the popular group: “Just started with them.

“Really good group in Carlisle.”

Praising Denise herself, Linda McAllister said: “Denise is amazing, a true inspiration and a lovely lady.”
